My path into socioanalysis began in organisations. I first worked in the financial sector and then in energy. An interest in corporate responsibility led me to work in the Peruvian Amazon, where questions about organisations became inseparable from questions about communities, the environment and the different ways people understand their lives together.
I am Dr Mónica Velarde Lazarte, a socioanalyst, psychologist, therapist and coach. My practice is rooted in the Tavistock tradition and its invitation to learn from experience. Work across different countries and settings has taught me to pay attention to the people and place before deciding what a familiar method might offer.
What I find beautiful about the socioanalytic way of thinking is that the unconscious is not only a source of difficulty. It can also hold possibilities for imagination and change. I am interested in developing ways of working that fit each setting and allow us to approach what may be hidden or hard to speak about. This can include fears and phantasies about change, alongside ideas that have not yet found a place.
Today I work with individuals, groups, communities and organisations. For projects that call for different kinds of experience, I bring in consultants from an international network and shape the team around the people and setting. You do not need to arrive with a clear account of the problem. We can begin with what you have noticed, including what does not yet make sense.
